Anna Lobner Glasgow/Dusseldorf Exchange 2011
30 August 2011
A big thank you to all Glasgow based artists who submitted proposals for the Anna Lobner Dusseldorf exchange this year.
This residency provides a fantastic opportunity for artists to stay in Dusseldorf for the months of September and October and develop new work in a city with amazing facilities for artists.
This year the Kulturamt der Landeshauptstadt (city cultural department of Dusseldorf) selected artist Alexis Dirks to be the recipient of this years award. Alexis was delighted to hear that she had been chosen and is very much looking forward to arriving in Dusseldorf to get started.
Alexis' practice explores the significance of geography and landscape in manipulating and informing collective identities. Focussing on her collection of found objects and images that depict or relate to landscape, her process of editing, deletion and collage re-appropriate the contextual and aesthetic value of these items to present alternative readings and implications. Dirks has exhibited in Glasgow, London, Berlin and Winnipeg. She was awarded a Hope Scott trust award in 2010 and a Glasgow City Council arts grant earlier this year.
