Wasps/PPG New Graduate Prize 2009

Now in its third year, Wasps New Graduate Prize continues to support three exceptional graduates from Glasgow School of Art, Edinburgh College of Art and Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee. Last year, property development company PPG became sponsors of the prize and we are delighted that they have sponsored the initiative for 2009.

The aim of this award is to help the most promising artists in Scotland get access to studio space at an early stage in their career. We hope this will encourage these artists to continuing making work after graduating from Art School.

This year’s prize winners are:

Jamie Fitzpatrick, BA (Hons) Sculpture, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art
Francesca Nobilucci, MFA Sculpture, Edinburgh College of Art
Rachel Wright, BA (Hons) Painting, Glasgow School of Art

We are huge fans of all the prize winners' work and thrilled that with PPG’s support we can give them a real boost at the beginning of their career. It will be hugely interesting to see how their work develops over the coming year.

Francesca Nobilucci who collaborates with other craftspersons and makers to create her work said:

"I am delighted to receive this award. It means a lot to me and will be an excellent incentive at this stage of my practice."

Rachel Wright Said:

"I am really looking forward to start working on a much larger in my new studio. This is something that I would not be able to explore if I did not have studio space."

You can get the chance to meet these artists and view their work at Wasps Open Studios Weekend on the 3rd and 4th October.

Last year's recipients of the award were Jack Wrigley, Jo Sykes and Fraser Gray.
