South Block, Merchant City

South Block is a stunning new 50,000 sq.ft. studio complex in the heart of Glasgow’s Merchant City. Designed by award-winning architects, NORD, South Block provides 96 studios for Glasgow’s creative community including:

  • 64 studios for visual artists and makers
  • 25 offices for creative companies
  • 7 offices for social enterprises working in the cultural sector
  • Shared office space for freelancers
  • All That is Coffee
  • Beautiful reception/exhibitions and events space


South Block will be open to the public on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th October as part of Wasps Open Studios 2014. Alongside artists open studios, the South Block programme is listed below:

Studio Talks from Patricia Fleming Projects and artist Darius Kowal
Join us for a short, informal tour of South Block Studios and learn more about Patricia Fleming’s recent exhibition for GENERATION and the studio practice of artist Darius Kowal. Each artist/curator will make a presentation followed by time for questions and answers. A rare opportunity for a behind the scenes look at the fascinating practices of these artists/curators in the location where their work is made.

Live Screen-printing, South Block Project Space, Ground Floor, 1-3pm
Join artists Craig McIntosh and David Ross for ‘Live Screen-printing’. Visitors will have the chance to design, print and take away their own art-works using ready-made screens.

Fun Faces with Viv, South Block Social Space, First Floor, all day drop-in session
Come along and have your face painted like a Van Gogh, Mondrian, Pollock or other masterpiece by artist Vivenne Edgar.

Sun 26th October
Artist Talk with Paul Kennedy, Studio 326, Third Floor, 2.30pm
Join Paul as he talks about the processes involved in making his work and his experiences of making work for the commercial gallery sector.

All that is Coffee will be open all weekend for tea, coffee, cakes and snacks.
