About Maggie Milne

I was born in Methil, Fife in 1957 and attended Buckhaven High School and then Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art ( Now DJCAD ) from 1974 till 1979. Since graduating from College I have spent the intervening four decades working as an artist, a portrait painter and a part time lecturer at various Colleges and Universities. Over the years I have been awarded various prizes and residencies, and although most of my work, especially recently, has been commission based, I have also exhibited fairly widely in galleries and institutions. Many of my portraits have been for private clients, but a large number are also in public spaces and institutions. In 2003 I participated in a series of programmes about portrait painting made for the BBC, Star Portraits, which I won. I use a wide variety of materials such as oils, watercolour, soft pastels, gouache and acrylic paint, and as well as portraiture I enjoy figure and life drawing and painting, figure compositions, still life and abstract painting with the very occasional dalliance with sculpture.

About the exhibition

This exhibition includes a series of painting and drawings, some new, some older, all centred around portraits and the human figure and in one part of the room, an installation which will be a recreation of the type of staging I would typically make for a life drawing class.
