Wasps are inviting proposals from all Glasgow-based artists to apply for the Anna Löbner Glasgow/ Düsseldorf Exchange 2018. Anna Löbner was an artist who was based at our Hanson Street studios and who sadly passed away in 2009. She was instrumental in setting up this inspiring exchange in her home town which has gone from strength to strength ever since.
The successful artist will spend September and October in Düsseldorf, Germany. On arrival, you will be met by a representative of the Kulturamt der Landeshauptstadt (Düsseldorf’s city council) who will introduce you to artists and cultural institutions in the city. You will be required to present an exhibition towards the end of your stay in the city run gallery Atelier Am Eck. Kulturamt der Landeshauptstadt will support you in the delivery of this exhibition and will provide hospitality and invitation cards for the opening night.
Studio and Living Accommodation:
If selected, you will be provided with use of a guest studio within the Künstlerförderung at Kulturamt der Landeshauptstadt, a converted old school which houses seven other artists. The accommodation and studio is located in the “Bilk” area of the city which is close to local amenities and on a direct train line to the city. A bicycle is also provided for you to get around the city.
The 140 meters square live/work space is open-plan, incorporating a living area with sofa, a sleeping area with double bed, a well equipped kitchen area with a table that seats 6 people, and a toilet with shower. Wifi is provided in the in the studio at a cost of 15 euros per month (flat rate) and you should bring your own laptop or tablet to access.
The successful applicant will be paid a monthly allowance of 1000€ for the two months of the stay, and a 300€ materials fee. Kulturamt der Landeshauptstadt will also contribute to travel costs. There is no charge for the live/work space but the artist is responsible for managing their own living and working expenses.
The Anna Löbner Exchange is now in its fourteenth year. Artists who have participated in the exchange in past years have included: Ciara Philips (printmaking and installation) Alexis Dirks (sculpture and installation), Danny Holcroft (sculpture and video) and Hardeep Pandhal (mixed media), Lauren Gault (sculpture), Calum Stirling (mixed media) and Sarah Forrest (mixed media).
We hope that the residency can:
- Provide an artist with time, freedom and support to develop their practice.
- Facilitate exposure to a new arts scene and different practices as well as to new galleries and museum collections.
- Expose the artist’s work to a new audience through exhibiting in a project space in Dusseldorf.
Closing date for Applications is Friday 6th July.
