Erin McPhee
Erin McPhee is a figurative painter who works and lives in Glasgow. Having graduated from the Painting and Printmaking department at Glasgow School of Art in 2024, Erin’s work explores themes of nostalgia, family and life through her chosen medium.
Working with oil on canvas, Erin intends to create large, gestural works that capture the emotionally driven elements of life rather than finer details. Using secondary sources, Erin responds to moments from her own life and family through painting in hopes of sharing and understanding her history and experiences.
With this at the forefront of her practice, Erin intends for the viewer to approach the work with their own eyes and not to think from her POV but rather their own. Questioning not what Erin has seen but what they have seen and experienced to somehow feel or relate towards the work.
Upon graduating, Erin was awarded the Stephen Campbell Trust Hunt Medal and is set to exhibit next year with the RSA New Contemporaries. Erin hopes to continue her studies as she takes on her MFA at Goldsmiths University in London in September 2025. She is planning to continue her making along the way.
