Celebrating our spaces: South Block, Glasgow Sout Celebrating our spaces: South Block, Glasgow

South Block is a 50,000ft² former textiles warehouse in the Merchant City area of Glasgow, which was transformed by Wasps to provide 64 studios and 32 office spaces for the creative industries, with a staffed reception, café and gallery space on the ground floor. Since it was established in 2011, the creative community at the building has grown to include over 150 artists, makers and designers that contribute to Glasgow's vibrant arts culture.

Photographer Alan Dimmick, based at South Block, documented his neighbours Amy Winstanley, Rosalind Lawless, Jason Bentley, Mandy Reid Foster and Janie Nicoll at work in their unique spaces filled with tools, works in progress and bookshelves stacked with references and inspiration.

Thank you to @alandimmick for capturing the artists at work, and to the subjects @amywinstanley, @ros_lawless, @jasonmbentley, @mandymakesmarks and @janie.nicoll for inviting us into your studios.

The sun has been out today at Riverside House in E The sun has been out today at Riverside House in Edinburgh for some of the artists based there alongside members of the Wasps team to install new planters and litter pick. 🌞🌿 We added greenery to the front entrance of the studios including lavender and some wild grasses, with help from willing participants of Riverside House @colinmeltstuff, @graemeswansonart, Donald Provan, @brasscatdesign, @cerrimckenzie.design and Ann Russell.

Thank you to Enva for supporting this activity by coming along to talk about the amazing work that you do, and providing the kit that allowed us to beautify our space and tidy up the local area.

An FYI - we still have some availability of studios at Riverside House for artists of all disciplines. Check out what's on offer by clicking the link in our bio.

Celebrating our spaces: The Steeple ⛪ The Stee Celebrating our spaces: The Steeple ⛪

The Steeple is an award-winning arts facility in Newburgh, a picturesque town on the south bank of the River Tay in north east Fife.

The original building comprised of the Town Hall and Steeple dates back to 1808, and is situated on Newburgh’s High Street. Originally the central municipal building for the town, The Steeple would go on to be used as a corn exchange, a theatre and a council meeting point before Wasps acquired the building and completed refurbishment in 2008. The original Palladian window is now encompassed wholly within the stairwell and the existing stone wall, with all its history of previous alterations left exposed and a view of the courtyard in the centre.

Surrounding The Steeple is the town of Newburgh, which is known for its fishing and linen-making industries reaching back centuries.

Today, this restored Newburgh landmark supports the creative practice of a small, close-knit community of artists and makers across eight studio spaces and an events space, which is often used for Open Studios weekends and workshops.
