Jeff McDonald
I`ve been a professional artist and WASPS tenant since 1988; I began teaching adult classes some 14 years ago and that has become an important dimension in my work – I paint frequently in different styles for demonstration, while my studio work is more personal and serious.
The lock-down and a recent bereavement have had an adverse effect on me in terms of my teaching, income and health; I am however developing new paintings that depart from previous abstract themes and now have overt figurative elements, combined with different painterly techniques to explore surreal, dark and sometimes playful narratives with mental health as a latent theme.
This work is on-going and though my active studio time is currently limited by circumstances, my engagement with new aspects of visual expression through painting remains as passionate as ever.
