Shona Harcus is an abstract painter based out of her studio at Perth Creative Exchange. She balances her full-time art practice with being a mother to two young children.
“I’m incredibly passionate about the Scottish landscape, in particular the West Coast and Hebridean Islands. The colours and wide open expanses uplift me and speak to a deep spiritual connection I feel to the sea.
Come Spring/Summer, I can be hugely inspired by the shapes and colours of the flora and fauna around me. My work often responds to this change in season and is reflected in the floral paintings I create.
I use my art to process memories and feelings of place, my emotional connection to the landscape and my surroundings through expressive, intuitive painting. I’m not too concerned about the representational, I feel it’s essential to leave a piece open to interpretation allowing the viewer to find their own special connection with it.”
Shona was born and raised in Scotland and studied Fine Art and Contemporary Art Practice. Part of her studies took her to North Uist in the Outer Hebrides which was a transformative experience for her. She currently lives and works in Perthshire, Scotland.
Paintings are in collections throughout the UK and Internationally.
