Sophia Pauley’s new body of work reflects the parallels and contradictions of the concept of ‘flow’.

Fluidly shifting between painting, drawing and sculptural installation, Sophia’s work conveys nostalgia and emotion attached to competitive swimming. The obsessive, repetitive and process-led studio production mirrors the immersion of mind and body when training in the pool. Sophia’s current work explores personal formative years, applying her understanding of ‘flow’ to her practice. This multi-sensory exhibition is an analysis of adrenaline, control and obsession in both sport and her work. This is Sophia’s first solo show, made possible by her winning the RSA x Wasps Award for 2022.

Sophia Pauley is a British artist, brought up in Cardiff and currently in her second year of her MA studying Painting at Royal College of Art in London.
